Dance History/Composition

The first semester of this course is a survey of dance from the primitive to the present, with an emphasis on Western theatrical styles and important dance personalities. The class is a seminar format where students will present at least two performance tasks based on research and writing. The second semester will introduce students to the art of composition. Dancers will explore their own movement compositions through structured improvisations. Choreographic techniques will be applied to produce finished products to be adjudicated for the department's Student Works concert. (grades 11-12 majors by permission) $15.00 studio fee.
