Physical Education

(6th & 7th grade)

During PE, students will gain an understanding of sportsmanship, fair play, and respect through cooperative play. Students will be expected to dress out in proper activity clothes, including sneakers, t-shirts, sweat pants, jogging suits, basketball shorts, and the like. All jewelry must be removed, and lotion is not to be applied before class.

 

High School Wellness

Wellness is a test of knowledge and skill. It is a combination of mental and physical challenges. These challenges will benefit students by improving their abilities to meet their own needs every day. The students will learn how to manage their physical, emotional, mental, social, and spiritual well-being throughout the school year. Students are required to to bring either their folders or their change of clothes to every class. If uncertain, they should bring both. They must complete any missed work, including tests, in a timely manner.

 

Study Skills

(6th grade)

This course is a three week exploratory class that students attend during each nine week grading period. The focus will be on organization, learning styles, study habits, specific strategies for studying, math and science enrichment, reading for pleasure, and cognitive reasoning. This is a pass/fail course; conduct, participation, and effort will be weighed.

 

Study Skills

(7th grade)

Students in this class will have an opportunity for enrichment during the rotation. Students will work on many skills, including vocabulary building, brainteasers, group work, organization, learning styles, and creativity. Grading is on a pass/fail basis.

 

ACT Prep

Princeton Review

This ACT course teaches the Princeton Review strategies for preparing to take the ACT exam for college admission. To lessen teat-taking anxiety, students are instructed in general test-taking strategies. In order to improve the overall ACT and subset scores, students are instructed in strategies specific to each of the ACT content areas. English, Math, Reading, Science, and Writing Essay.

 

Academic Lab

This course will ensure that each student has the skills necessary for independent learning and the motivation to succeed academically.
